Un-BEY-knownst to her millions of fans (heh... see what I did there?), Beyoncé announced and RELEASED a new album overnight.
OK read that again.
NONE of her fans knew this was coming - she announced a new album last night, then released it. Like, it is all on iTunes right now. Fourteen amazing new songs. I can't... I just can't.
This album is unlike any of Beyoncé's first 4 albums; it is being called a 'visual album.' The record is called Beyoncé (wut) and has 14 songs along with 17 videos (OMG OMG OMG).
The album even has a track FEATURING BLUE IVY called Blue (Feat. Blue Ivy). And of course, there is a track with Jay Z as well. She also has tracks featuring Drake and Frank Ocean.
Beyoncé is a genius. She explains in THIS video that when she writes a song, she has a visual story in her head, one that she wants the listener to see. So, with this album, she wanted to release each song with a video right off the bat.
"Now people only listen to a few seconds of song on the iPods and they don't really invest in the whole experience. It's all about the single, and the hype. It's so much that gets between the music and the art and the fans," she explains in the video (below). "I felt like, I don't want anybody to get the message, when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it's ready and from me to my fans."
Last night's release is cryptically labeled 'Part I,' making up hope and pray that there are more parts to this work of art.
Upon the release of the the new album, the internet imploded with people realizing that today is the best day of all time. You can see some of their tweets here.
