Tyrus Inouye- security specialist, DJ, personal trainer and avid sport rider.
In August 2004, Tyrus was struck down on his motorcycle by a drunk driver. After making a miraculous recovery, he decided to give back to his community by working with the nonprofit organization, The Austin Foundation. Sharing his skill as a personal trainer with inner city youth programs and volunteering his time to the King County Juvenile Detention Center.
Tyrus’ community service was cut short in 2008 by the sudden onset of aggressive cataracts. Since the initial surgeries, Tyrus has struggled with continuing eye problems, including severe inflammation and progressive glaucoma. Recently, he was diagnosed with a dislocated intraocular lens; which left untreated in a timely manner will result in permanent blindness.
Tyrus works full time, but he does not received health insurance coverage, and he cannot afford the estimated procedure costs of post-surgical care of $30,000. He has fully explored all avenues of assistance and has been denied at every turn due to the dangerous nature of his condition and difficult degree of surgery required.
