Seriously.  I don't understand.  The Easter Bunny is coming to our apartment building this weekend for photos and I am nervous about it. WHY?  Because I am convinced that ALL Easter Bunny costumes are just as terrifying as a mob of knife-wielding clowns.  Yes.  THAT scary.

I can’t believe I have been working at this for 6 weeks already! The Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon is just 85 days away.  AH!  I got so busy in the last week that I didn't even post at the end of week #5.  This week was a bit of a challenge nutrition-wise for me, but I know that starting today I am totally back on track with it.  Haven’t started running on a regular basis, but its just around the corner; my friend Scott who owns StoneWay CrossFit will be training me with the CrossFit Endurance program to get ready for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.  I can’t wait!

I haven’t  had time to get to the gym this week because of various things that got in the way.  So, I’ve been working out at home.  If you’re in need of a good 10-minute workout, don't have a gym membership, aren't ready to committ to CrossFit, etc., here’s a little workout that you can do at home.  All I use is a yoga mat, although if you have a good-sized carpeted area in your home it would work well, too.

AMRAP 10 minutes (as many reps as possible in 10 minutes)

10 burpees

15 sit ups

20 air squats

Completing all three things (10 burpees followed by 15 sit ups followed by 20 air squats) counts as one “rep.”  You must do them in order.  Complete the list as many times through as you can in 10 minutes.  Really gets everything working and your heart pumping.

So… what is a burpee? ...Either your new best friend, or your worst nightmare.  Here is a little how-to video I found on the world wide web.

I’ve also been doing daily at-home stretching/mobility throughout the Whole Life challenge (which is over in just 2 short weeks! Can’t wait for my WOD retest).  I’m a big fan of the pigeon stretch, ‘wind releasing pose,’ and a few other yoga poses.  Just taking a few minutes to stretch at the beginning and/or end of each day really calms me down, and makes me feel good.  You should try it!  If you need some stretch ideas, feel free to ask me!  @BonjourDanielle.

Sheesh!  I can’t believe I am at the end of the 4th week of the Whole Life Challenge!  It’s kind of been a roller coaster - I have my good and bad days - but making good choices about what I eat is getting a lot easier.  Some of the recipes I have made are incredible!

I totally suggest Civilized Caveman’s pulled pork recipe with homemade BBQ sauce (sauce link in the pulled pork recipe).  I’ve been craving some sweet BBQ sauce, but usually its chalk-full of sugars and unhealthy garbage.  So, I took to the internet to find something that worked for me.  After reading tons of great reviews of the Civilized Caveman BBQ pulled pork recipe, I knew I had to go for it.

AND IT WAS AMAZING.  Keeps super well in the fridge... amazingly delicious.  Totally satisfied cravings.  But, you’re only going to dig this if you’re OK with a vinegar based-tasting BBQ sauce.

(WLC Warning: be careful with canned pineapple.  You’re better off slicing up your own pineapple to avoid sugary pineapple juice than using canned pineapple in this recipe). 

I also got experimental lately with my cooking because I was craving something crunchy.  So I attempted my own avocado fries!  I took some avocados, sliced them up, dipped them in egg white, and then covered them in macadamia nuts that I had put through the food processor.  Popped them in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.  They were good, but its a recipe I’m still working on.  The avocado + macadamia was suuuuuper rich, and they were still pretty squishy (on the left, before the oven).  Trying to perfect the “avocado fries” will be my next kitchen challenge :)

So, my nutrition has been going REALLY well.  Now, I need to focus on my running (after all, that’s what I am working towards!)!!  The Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon is quickly approaching - we are into the double digits... its just 99 days away!  If you haven’t signed up, get to it!

Where are your favorite places to run?  What’s your favorite running shoe or something that you can't run without?  Any advice for a newbie? :)
